Quick Distance Reference

Reaching from Una Town

If you are starting from Una itself — the district headquarters and a well-connected railhead — there are several ways to reach the temple, all of them straightforward.

By Private Car or Taxi

The most convenient option. From Una bus stand, take the road towards Bangana via Mehatpur. Continue on the well-maintained MDR-31 (Una-Nangal Road) through the villages of Dhundla and Raipur Maidan. The road is scenic — winding gently through low hills, mustard fields in spring, and stretches of the Govind Sagar shoreline visible on the right. Signposts to "Baba Garibnath Mandir" begin appearing about 5 km before Andrauli. The drive takes 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic.

Taxis are readily available from Una bus stand and Una railway station. A one-way fare to the temple typically ranges from ₹500 to ₹700 (subject to change). Many drivers will offer a round-trip with waiting time at the temple for ₹1,200 to ₹1,500, which is the most practical arrangement for a half-day visit. Auto-rickshaws can also be hired but are slower; expect 60-70 minutes one-way.

By Public Bus (HRTC)

Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses run regularly between Una and the Bangana-Raipur belt. From Una bus stand, board any bus headed towards Bangana, Bhakra, or Naina Devi. Get down at Raipur Maidan or directly at the Andrauli stop — the conductor will know "Baba Garibnath Mandir." The fare is approximately ₹40 to ₹60. From the Andrauli stop, the temple is a 5-10 minute walk down a paved path.

HRTC buses on this route operate roughly every 30 to 60 minutes from 5:30 AM to about 7:00 PM. On Mahashivratri, Sawan Mondays, and the annual fair, additional special buses are run. Always confirm the last return bus when you arrive — typically the last bus from Andrauli back to Una departs around 7:00-7:30 PM.

By Two-Wheeler

For local devotees, riding a motorcycle or scooter is a popular option. The road is in good condition through nearly its entire length, with a few rough patches near Raipur Maidan. Allow 50 minutes from Una. Parking near the temple is free and ample.

By Train

The nearest railway station is Una Himachal Railway Station (station code: UHL), well-connected by daily express trains to Delhi, Amritsar, and several other cities. From Una railway station to the temple is approximately 20 km — an easy 40-minute drive.

Useful trains for devotees from various cities:

  • Delhi → Una: Himachal Express, Jan Shatabdi (overnight or early-morning options).
  • Amritsar → Una: Several daily passenger services via Hoshiarpur.
  • Chandigarh → Una: Direct passenger trains (4 hours approx.).

Pre-paid taxis are usually available outside the station; alternatively, walk five minutes to Una bus stand for the public bus option described above.

By Air

There are two airport options for reaching the temple, depending on where you are flying from:

For international devotees, fly to Delhi (IGI), then take the train or a hired car to Una; total journey approximately 8-9 hours.

Routes from Major Cities

From Delhi

The most commonly used route is: Delhi → Sonipat → Panipat → Karnal → Ambala → Chandigarh → Ropar → Anandpur Sahib → Nangal → Una → Andrauli. The total distance is approximately 380 kilometres; expect 7 to 8 hours of driving by private car, longer by bus. The road quality is excellent throughout. NH-44 from Delhi to Chandigarh is a six-lane expressway; from Chandigarh to Una the road is a well-maintained two- and four-lane highway through the foothills.

An alternative is the train: take an overnight train from Delhi to Una Himachal (departing around 10:00 PM, arriving early morning), and a taxi from there. Many devotees prefer this option for the comfort and time-savings.

From Chandigarh

From Chandigarh, the route is direct: Chandigarh → Kharar → Kurali → Ropar → Anandpur Sahib → Nangal → Una → Andrauli. About 140 km, 3 to 4 hours by car. This route passes through Anandpur Sahib — itself a major religious site for the Sikh community — and many devotees combine the two visits into a single trip.

From Ludhiana / Jalandhar / Amritsar

From Punjab's Doaba and Majha regions, the typical route is via Hoshiarpur: Ludhiana/Jalandhar → Hoshiarpur → Garhshankar → Una → Andrauli. From Ludhiana, about 140 km (3-3.5 hours). From Jalandhar, about 100 km (2.5 hours). From Amritsar, about 200 km (4-5 hours). The Punjab section is on excellent national highways; the Una section is on state highways through pleasant countryside.

From Pathankot

From Pathankot, take the route via Mukerian, Hoshiarpur, and Una. About 165 km, 3.5-4 hours.

From Hamirpur / Bilaspur

From Hamirpur, the temple is approximately 60 km via Bharwain and Bangana. From Bilaspur (after crossing the dam at Bhakra), the temple is just 25-30 km — many devotees combine a visit to Mata Naina Devi with one to Baba Garibnath ji on the same day.

Reaching the Temple During Monsoon

Between approximately late July and mid-September, when Govind Sagar is at peak holding capacity, the road right up to the temple becomes partially submerged. Visitors are then ferried to the dham by boat from a temporary ghat near Andrauli village. The boat ride is about 10-15 minutes one-way and is offered by local boatmen for a small fee (typically ₹50-₹100 per person, round trip). This monsoon-time boat darshan is one of the most distinctive features of the temple, and many devotees specifically time their pilgrimage to experience it.

Boats begin running from about 6:00 AM and continue until late afternoon. After 5:30 PM, the boat service usually ends for safety reasons. Plan your visit to be on the temple side before sunset.

Where to Stay

The temple operates a small dharmshala on its grounds for devotees who wish to stay overnight. Rooms are simple, clean, and offered on a donation basis (no fixed rate). They fill quickly during festival weeks; advance contact with the temple office is recommended at +91 94633 77287.

For more comfortable accommodation, the options are in Una town (25 km away), which has several mid-range hotels and budget guesthouses. Among the commonly used choices are the HPTDC Hotel Bagheera, Hotel Simba International, and a number of independent guesthouses near the bus stand. Una town offers far better food and shopping options for travellers.

If you are combining the trip with Naina Devi or Anandpur Sahib, both also have well-developed hotel infrastructure for pilgrims.

Where to Eat

The temple's langar serves wholesome, simple, hot meals to all visitors — free of charge — through most of the day. This is where the majority of devotees eat. Outside the temple, small dhabas and tea-stalls operate near Andrauli and Raipur Maidan, serving the standard north-Indian fare of paranthas, dal-roti, sabzi-rice, and tea. For more substantial meals or restaurant-style dining, return to Una town.
